Fabrizio Romano says Premier League club have now opened talks for 'exceptional' Leeds United player

Fabrizio Romano claims Premier League side Brighton have now opened talks to sign a Leeds United player this summer, as James Milner’s men look to raid Elland Road.

The Seagulls are in the market having appointed 31-year-old manager Fabian Hürzeler. Having replaced Roberto De Zerbi, the Premier League side are now focusing on transfers and a Leeds player is targeted.

The Whites know they have to sell players this summer with The 49ers inheriting a large credit card bill from Andrea Radrizzani following last summer’s takeover. The details show Leeds owe as much as £190m.

Promotion would have helped Leeds pay the debts off but defeat to Southampton in the Championship play-off final to Southampton at Wembley means The Whites will now need to cash in on some players.

Fabrizio Romano says Brighton now in talks for Leeds player

The widely-connected Italian journalist has taken to X to report that Brighton have opened talks to sign the “exceptional” Crysencio Summerville from Leeds, with plenty of Premier League clubs eyeing a deal.

Earlier reports say Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham and Bournemouth are keen, while Newcastle have discussed a deal for the Dutchman internally. Palace could also consider a move for Summerville.

That is, if they sell Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze over the next few months. But according to Romano, Brighton have stolen a march on their rivals by opening talks and making contact with Leeds for him.

Romano said: “Understand Brighton have made contact to start talks over Crysencio Summerville deal. Not an easy one with many clubs keen but Brighton have started initial talks to explore this possibility. Liverpool and Chelsea have been monitoring him in recent months, still open race.”

Brighton a good move for Summerville, on one key condition

That condition is Kaoru Mitoma. The Japan star spent much of last season injured, but he remains one of Brighton’s best players and despite his disappointing 2023-24 season, there will be interest in his services.

If Mitoma stays, then a move to the south coast might not really suit Summerville given he will play back-up to the Japan star in his favoured left-wing position. But if Mitoma goes, it is the perfect move for him.
