Tottenham now showing strong interest in signing 18-year-old ‘wonderkid’ who played 52 games last season

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly showing strong interest in signing a talented youngster who played 52 games for his club last season.

Spurs could be set for more departures over the coming weeks as Emerson Royal edges closer towards a £16 million switch to AC Milan.

Should the Brazilian complete a move to the San Siro, he would become the sixth player to head out the door at Hotspur Way this summer.

It would also leave Tottenham in need of competition for Pedro Porro, with Monaco’s Vanderson said to be of interest to Spurs.

But according to Football.London, the Lilywhites could opt for a more inexperienced option to cover for Porro.

Tottenham have strong interest in Archie Gray

The outlet reports that Tottenham are looking at potential replacements ahead of a possible exit for Royal.

Leeds United starlet Archie Gray is being monitored by a host of Premier League sides and Spurs hold a strong interest in the 18-year-old.

It’s claimed that Postecoglou’s side have tracked his progress in the Championship closely.

Gray put pen to paper on a new deal that will run until 2028 with Leeds back in January and it would take ‘big money’ to lure him away from Elland Road.

Who is Archie Gray?

Gray racked up 52 appearances under Daniel Farke last season and enjoyed a real breakthrough year at Leeds.

The youngster, lauded as a ‘wonderkid’, also kept Tottenham loanee Djed Spence out of Farke’s side at right-back during the first half of last season.

The Englishman is naturally a midfielder but mainly operated at right-back last term. This would likely lend itself well to Postecoglou’s style of play, with the Aussie preferring his full-backs to invert.

Whether or not a move to Spurs would come too soon for Gray is up for debate. But he’s shown plenty of promise at his boyhood club and it’s great to see the club looking at top talents in the Championship once again.
