Report: £47m player Tottenham are desperate to sign this summer now agrees to join Antonio Conte at Napoli

A player Tottenham badly want to sign this summer has now agreed to join Antonio Conte at Napoli.

The Italian – who left Spurs in March 2023 – has just taken his first management role since departing N17 as he attempts to get Napoli back on track, after a disappointing tenth place finish last season.

Reinforcements in the market will surely be required to achieve that, and Antonio Conte is now close to bringing a Tottenham target to Naples…

Tottenham target Alessandro Buongiorno agrees Napoli move

A story from Calcio Napoli 24 in Italy now claims that Torino No.4 Alessandro Buongiorno has agreed to join Napoli.

The Italian news outlet share the update just days after Calciomercato revealed that Tottenham are “convinced” they need to sign the Italy international this summer.

Calcio Napoli 24 believe Buongiorno has agreed a five-year contract with Conte’s Napoli, worth €2.5m-per-season (£2.1m).

However, there is still a way to go until Napoli and Torino reach an agreement over a fee.

Torino are demanding €55m (£47m) to sell Buongiorno this summer, with Napoli only willing to spend €30m (£25m) to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

Therefore, Spurs could still have a lifeline in this transfer saga, especially as Calcio Napoli 24 add that Urbano Cairo – President of Torino – and Aurelio De Laurentiis, President of Napoli, do not enjoy the best relationship.

Spurs have other options

Buongiorno is not the only central defender on Tottenham’s shortlist, so a move to Napoli is unlikely to leave Ange Postecoglou without backup options.

TBR Football have been told that Fiorentina No.4 Nikola Milenkovic is another centre-back in Tottenham’s sights this summer.

The Serbia international shone on Sunday as Serbia narrowly lost 1-0 to England in Group C of UEFA EURO 2024, pocketing Harry Kane and limiting the Spurs legend to just 24 touches in 90 minutes.

Tottenham’s pursuit of a central defender comes amid interest from Real Madrid in Cristian Romero – so Spurs might be lining up potential replacements for the Argentine.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the north Londoners could still sign Buongiorno if Napoli and Torino fail to find an agreement.
