'You might not believe this': Cole Palmer shares the surprise position he used to play

Chelsea star Cole Palmer was one of the best attackers in the Premier League last season.

In 33 appearances for Chelsea, Cole Palmer scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists.

No player in the Premier League managed to come up with more goal contributions than the 22-year-old.

As of now, then, you would have to say that Palmer is the No.1 attacker in Enzo Maresca‘s squad.

However, the Englishman did not always play in the forward line.

Cole Palmer reveals his old position

These days, Palmer plays on the right or behind the striker.

They are positions the England international obviously thrived in last season.

As a very young boy, though, Palmer actually used to play in defence.

“You might not believe this, but I actually used to be a left-back when I was nine years old,” Palmer shared on Chelsea’s official app. “It wasn’t until the following year that I moved to become an attacking midfielder and then a winger.

“It’s fair to say, I don’t miss playing left-back.”

Where is Cole Palmer going to play for England during Euro 2024 after Serbia snub?

England kicked of their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 win against Serbia on Sunday.

Despite starting the Three Lions’ two warm-up games, Palmer was named on the bench at the Veltins-Arena and did not come on the pitch.

With goalscorer Jude Bellingham starting in the No.10 position, Palmer’s minutes are likely to come on the right at this summer’s tournament.

However, competing against Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who got the nod over him on Sunday, it does not look like Palmer is going to get too many opportunities in Germany.

It is a shame, as the former Manchester City man can bring a lot to this England team and arguably deserves to start after the numbers he put up last term.

But understandably, Gareth Southgate has settled on Saka. Like Palmer, the 22-year-old also registered some very good figures in the Premier League, coming up with 25 goal contributions in 35 games.
