'Watch out': Journalist says Tottenham could be about to bid for £20m player who is shining at EURO 2024

Tottenham could soon submit a bid to sign a player who is currently shining at UEFA EURO 2024.

A number of Spurs players are already in Germany as they aim to help their respective nations achieve glory, such as Radu Dragusin, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven.

Now, a player who is part of the Italy squad alongside Vicario could be the subject of a bid from Tottenham

Tottenham could make “rich” offer to sign Riccardo Calafiori

A post from Orazio Accomando of DAZN Italy claims that Tottenham could soon make a substantial bid to sign Bologna No.33 Riccardo Calafiori.

The Italian journalist writes that Spurs have made contact with Bologna – and also the Italy international’s representatives – to see what it would take to bring him to N17.

Accomando stresses that Juventus are also keen to sign Calafiori and are currently ahead of Tottenham in the race to secure his signature, but tells fans to “watch out” for a “rich” offer from the north Londoners.

The 22-year-old made headlines after Italy recorded a 2-1 win over Albania in their opening match of UEFA EURO 2024 on Saturday, mainly for his stereotypically Italian locks, which reminded many of the days of Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta, but also for his solid defending and ability in possession.

SofaScore shows that Calafiori made a whopping 99 passes out of an attempted 106 – at a success rate of 93% – while also recording three interceptions and one tackle.

The man from Rome also embarked on two dribbles from the back, completing both successfully.

Italy international had a £20m price tag but that could change

A story from Give Me Sport recently claimed that Calafiori was on the market for around £20m this summer.

If that was the case, we doubt it will remain that way after UEFA EURO 2024 has ended – especially if the Italian maintains this level of performance.

Tottenham paid £26m to sign the aforementioned Dragusin from Genoa in January – a man who shone for Romania earlier on Monday – and in our view, Calafiori will cost at least that amount after this summer’s tournament is over.

Spurs are also said to be looking at another defender performing well at UEFA EURO 2024 in Serbia’s Nikola Milenkovic – who pocketed Harry Kane superbly on Sunday.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Tottenham’s transfer activity, as a bid for Calafiori could still be made while the Italian is away in Germany…
