Celtic and the need for patience in the summer transfer window

Celtic fans will be excited that the summer transfer window is now open amid the reality that Brendan Rodgers is expected to be busy in the market.

The goalkeeper situation is a widely known priority that the club are keen to solve, with Newcastle United veteran Martin Dubravka, Sparta Prague’s Peter Vindahl Jensen and Lorient stopper Yvon Mvogo among potential solutions.

Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc is a defensive target who is currently on international duty with Austria at EURO 2024; meanwhile, the notion of either Paulo Bernardo or Adam Idah returning to Celtic permanently from their parent clubs remains to be seen.

Truthfully, it has been a frustrating start to the window, and as fans, it feels like a plethora of different options are linked every day, making them hard to pin down.

However, mitigating factors may be at play, which, with a little patience, could soon disappear as Rodgers hunts for reinforcements.

The major international tournament caveat for Celtic

With no Celtic to watch, many Hoops supporters will be tuning in to EURO 2024 to get their football fix. Copa America also starts on Friday, providing more entertainment to analyse while waiting for pre-season.

Undoubtedly, the tournaments could also serve as a recruitment avenue for the reigning Scottish Premiership champions, who are likely to have scouts at work profiling potential acquisitions.

Fear not. Suppose there are names on Celtic’s radar at either competition. In that case, they will probably be keen to devote all their attention to international duty before sorting out their club future upon elimination.

This is a natural consequence of these events, and it can also be a shop window for talent determined to steal the headlines and generate interest in their services.

Being involved in a camp is a full-on endeavour; there is very little time between matches in the group phase. It isn’t surprising that, beyond speculation, there is a lack of transfer movement among players in Germany or scheduled to compete at Copa America.

Although it is frustrating, take a breath and enjoy the summer. Celtic will be active, but it may be a waiting game.
