Report: Newcastle make contact to sign 'talented' player who won the Europa League last season

Newcastle United have made contact to sign a ‘talented’ player who won the Europa League last season, according to a recent report.

The Magpies just missed out on European football last term, so the onus will be on Eddie Howe to return the club to a top-six finish.

The former Bournemouth boss will need to be backed heavily in the summer transfer window after an injury-hit season.

It’s evident Newcastle didn’t have the depth to fight on four fronts, so the squad needs to be seriously bolstered.

That said, the club have made contact to sign a Europa League winner.

Newcastle United make contact to sign Juan Musso

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle United have made contact to sign Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso.

The 30-year-old, who played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europe League triumph, could leave this summer with just a year left on his deal.

There is a ‘concrete possibility’ that he could join The Magpies, with a £10.1m price tag being mooted.

Villarreal are also said to have initiated talks with the Serie A side as they look to sign back up for Filip Jorgensen.

It remains to be seen what role Newcastle envisage Musso in, though, given his terrific European exploits, he could join to replace Nick Pope as the number one.

Juan Musso or James Trafford?

It would appear Newcastle have narrowed down their two goalkeeping targets to Musso and James Trafford, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tyneside.

Musso would bring more experience and perhaps is ahead of Trafford at this stage of his career, though, aged 30, he’s not really a long-term option.

Whereas, Trafford has plenty of time to develop and has a higher ceiling, so it’s a difficult decision for Newcastle chiefs to make.

A telling couple of weeks await.
