Gary Neville gives verdict on whether star has made the right decision to turn down Arsenal

Arsenal may have done extremely well in the Premier League last season, but the Gunners are fully aware of the need to strengthen their squad.

Manchester City won the Premier League title once again last season, and Arsenal need a better and more competitive squad to take the crown away from Pep Guardiola’s side in the 2024-25 campaign.

One of the areas that Arsenal have identified to strengthen this summer is in attack.

Kai Havertz did well upfront for the Gunners last season. The Germany international scored 14 goals and gave seven assists in 51 matches in all competitions.

Gabriel Jesus is an option for the North London club, but the former Manchester City striker is not prolific, and, according to Theo Walcott, “overcomplicates” things.

Arsenal miss out on Benjamin Sesko

So, it is not a surprise that Arsenal were looking to sign Benjamin Sesko, one of the best young forwards in Europe.

Sesko scored 18 goals and gave two assists in 42 matches in all competitions for RB Leipzig last season.

As HITC reported last week, Sesko turned down the chance to move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window and signed a new contract with Leipzig.

Chelsea were interested in Sesko as well, and now the Blues have to look elsewhere for a striker.

Gary Neville’s verdict on Benjamin Sesko decision

Former Manchester United and England international right-back Gary Neville has given his verdict on Sesko’s decision to stay at Leipzig, and he thinks it was a good idea.

Neville said about Sesko, as quoted in Football.London: “Goals, youth (why he’s so impressive) physically I think we’re moving back to having big striker up top – the game seems to have flipped to having big strikers.

“He’s got so much potential, you can see why Premier League clubs (want him) and why he’s staying at Leipzig for another year, to grow without the spotlight that you’d have in the Premier League and develop your game a little bit more.”

It is a disappointment for Arsenal that Sesko has decided to stay at Leipzig, but the Gunners could get the chance to sign him in the coming years.

The Slovenia international is only 21 now, and it is unlikely that he will stay in the Bundesliga for long if he continues to progress and develop.
