Lady Louise absent from Garter Day despite joining Sophie and Edward at King's Birthday Parade

Lady Louise Windsor did not attend the Garter Day service today even though she made a public appearance at Trooping the Colour over the weekend.

The 20-year-old royal attended the annual royal parade on Saturday alongside her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, but was noticeably absent at today's service.

King Charles led the working members of the Royal Family in today's festivities and the royals were all smiles as they paraded through the streets in the white plumed hats and dark blue velvet robes.

Lady Louise's mother and father, Edward and Sophie, attended the event alongside the King and Prince William,

Despite Lady Louise not being an official working member of the Royal Family, she often attends large royal gatherings such as Trooping the Colour.

The King's niece has been previously praised for her efforts at royal events, with many commentators suggesting she would make a great addition to the working monarchy amid the King and Princess of Wales's cancer battles.

It is unlikely that the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will take on more responsibility however as she is committed to her studies at the University of St Andrews.

Sophie Wessex has also previously expressed that she would like her daughter to work for a living.

The Duchess of Edinburgh told The Times: “We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living.

“Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles.

“They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”

As well as Lady Louise, Princess Kate did not attend the service today, despite appearing at Trooping The Colour at the weekend.

The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and Trooping the Colour was her first public appearance of 2024.

The royal's appearance at Trooping the Colour does not signal a return to undertaking public duties.

The Princess of Wales hopes to join a few public engagements over the summer but did not join her family at Garter Day today and is not expected to put in an appearance at Royal Ascot this week.

Kate said in a statement ahead of her appearance at Trooping the Colour: “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
