Gorefield driver makes a positive return to racing at Croft and Silverstone circuits

Gorefield driver Bill Garner has made an excellent return to racing after taking a two-year break from the sport.

Garner is racing in the 750 Motor Club Formula Vee Championship and began the new season on the Croft Circuit, in Darlington, at the end of April.

Driving the ex-multiple championship-winning Maverick KE01 Class B car, he managed an impressive fourth overall and a Class B win in Race One.

Gorefield driver Bill Garner and his racing team have made an excellent return to racing after a two-year break.

Starting on row two for the second race he was in the battle for third overall and another class win when the safety car was deployed.

During this period an overheating brake problem forced him into a retirement.

Heading to Silverstone on the weekend of May 18-19, the team were hoping for a similar result and were not to be disappointed.

Qualifying went well with a P4 start in Race One and a front-row P2 start in Race Two - the best-ever session for the Gorefield racer in a field of 35 cars.

Race one on Saturday resulted in sixth place overall and a class win, recording the fastest lap too and on Sunday he improved even more with a third-place podium and a class win.

A delighted Garner said: ''For some, it might be just P3 but for us, it was special for many reasons.

Having finished fourth at the Silverstone British Kart Grand Prix in 1988 by four-hundredths of a second it was great to finally get on the podium after so many years.

"Club motorsport is very competitive and on a tight budget, days like these need to be appreciated and remembered. Huge thanks to my wife and team manager Stephanie who diligently plans and schedules our race weekends."

Racing under the Team Wombat Racing banner, pit lane support comes from mechanics Andrew Humphrey and Toby George.

The results thus far mean that Garner sits fourth in the overall championship and second in the Class B Championship.

The next meeting is at Snetterton 300 circuit, in Norfolk, on Saturday. The No.12 race car is currently plain white with lots of opportunities for sponsor decals.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, both financially or in fuel, parts or equipment.
