‘Wouldn’t be surprised’: Celtic tipped to get ‘a hefty’ transfer fee after latest Matt O’Riley rumour emerges

With the transfer window fully open, the Celtic fans will be sitting and waiting to hear of any sign of news that the club are doing business.

With links to players coming thick and fast, Brendan Rodgers has a bit of work ahead of him if he is to replace the likes of Joe Hart or finalise a deal to bring Adam Idah to the club.

But as well as incomings, Celtic are also at threat of losing some of their best players as clubs from Europe circle the likes of Danish midfielder, Matt O’Riley.

The Celtic hero has been heavily linked to Atletico Madrid for months now and after hearing the latest rumour regarding the Hoops midfielder, Andy Walker is tipping the Parkhead club to ‘do business’ this summer.

Celtic ‘will do business’ for Matt O’Riley

We discussed yesterday how reports from Spain suggested that in order to pave the way to make a move for O’Riley, Atletico would need to negotiate a contract termination with Saul Niguez.

That same report also suggested that Celtic have valued their prized asset at €40m (£34m) and Walker said Celtic will sell if that fee is offered.

Walker said [The Go Radio Football Show], “If you’re talking about business at that level, Celtic will do business. That is their model.

“And no one would bat an eye, because Celtic tend to identify players in a much lower category, as they did with Matt O’Reilly.

“Bring them to Glasgow, play him in the Scottish Premiership, fatten him up, sell him on. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes, but it will be a hefty fee.”

Of course, if Celtic gets that type of money for O’Riley there is absolutely no question that he will leave the club.

The Parkhead club cannot afford to knock back that kind of money and to be even talking about fees in that region as testament to how well Celtic play the transfer game.

I am pretty sure the O’Riley story has a few twists and turns to go yet and I genuinely hope he remains at Celtic beyond the summer but if the rumoured £34m valuation is met, the Denmark international will leave Glasgow this summer.
