John Percy shares how Nottingham Forest feel behind the scenes about imminent Carlos Miguel deal

It’s not really a secret that Nottingham Forest are getting closer to the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.

The Reds are set to land themselves a 6ft 7in giant in the coming days, with the deal gaining traction.

Miguel played for Corinthians against Sao Paulo on Sunday and caught the eye with a wonderful save during the 2-2 draw.

Now, it would appear as though Forest have activated the £3.4 million release clause in his contract and things are getting closer.

John Percy posted an update on X last night – a clear indication that things are moving forward – and he’s shared how Forest feel about the deal.

This deal does look like a good one on the face of things, with Forest in need of a new goalkeeper.

Matz Sels did a brilliant job after signing in January but at 32-years-old he’s hardly one for the future.

Matt Turner has been linked with a move away from Forest, whilst Odysseas Vlachodimos is also set to be on his way.

Last night, Percy took to X to share how Forest are feeling ahead of signing Miguel – and also claimed the deal is close.

He posted: “#nffc are close to making their first signing of the summer – Corinthians goalkeeper Carlos Miguel is expected to fly in for a medical later this week ahead of a £3.4m move. Forest have triggered Miguel’s release clause and view the deal as very good business.”

Miguel has only actually made 25 appearances for Corinthians and this feels like a big move for the giant goalkeeper.

Miguel and Sels will enjoy battle for Forest number one spot

It wouldn’t be fair to instantly dismiss Sels given his performances between the posts last season for Forest.

However, Miguel does look to tick a lot of boxes and he clearly possesses strong reflexes – much like Brice Samba did.

At 25, he is the younger goalkeeper that Forest have been craving and it’s interesting that the club view this has a strong deal.

The last player who signed from Corinthians was Murillo and after joining for £10 million, Forest value him at £70 million.

Miguel is signing for under £4 million and if he produces the goods, Forest will feel they can make significant profit on him as well.

Nuno Espirito Santo has moved quickly to iron out his goalkeeper options – and that doesn’t come as a shock.

Sels is solid enough but the sooner Turner and Vlachodimos are moved on the better.
