Mark Crossley reacts as Kevin Campbell sadly passes away

Saturday morning saw the sad news of Kevin Campbell’s passing surface.

The former Nottingham Forest centre-forward had spent around two weeks in hospital fighting illness, but has tragically passed away at the age of 54.

Campbell played at the City Ground between 1995 and 1998 following his time at Arsenal where he was able to get his hands on the FA Cup.

The former Forest striker’s passing has seen tributes pour in after he established himself as a popular figure during his time on the pitch and as a pundit.

Forest’s former goalkeeper Mark Crossley is one of numerous people to have now shared their thoughts on Campbell following the tragic news.

Mark Crossley pays tribute to Kevin Campbell

After hearing the news of Campbell’s passing, numerous former players and pundits shared their thoughts on the former striker.

But it was not only his former teammates who were getting involved with Nottingham Forest also sharing their condolences on social media.

One of his former teammates, Crossley, also took to social media to share his thoughts on the former Forest striker.

“Life can be so cruel at times. Absolutely devastated with news of my ex-Forest teammate Kevin Campbell’s passing, a true gentleman, a great player, a shining light of a dressing room, fun loving guy, thoughts are with all his family and friends RIP mate,” Crossley wrote on X.

A fitting tribute for a man who clearly showed his qualities as a person not just as a footballer.

It is apparent Campbell is a man who touched many around the City Ground during his time at the club.

Campbell had played a huge role in Forest’s 1998 promotion and formed a sensational strike partnership with the Dutch forward Pierre van Hooijdonk.

TNT Sports commentator and Forest fan Darren Fletcher has also weighed in on the tributes which have flooded in already today.

“Absolutely devastated that Kevin Campbell has passed away,” he said on X.

“He’s been my mate since he joined Forest in 1995 and my colleague on the radio in more recent times. They called him ‘Super Kev’ – cos he was a beloved player. But he was Super Kev because he was a super bloke RIP mate.”

A really sad day for all football fans.
