Report: Nottingham Forest make decision on 'poor' £10m player 12 months after signing him

Nottingham Forest will be active during the transfer window with a host of activity likely on Trentside.

Last summer, Forest signed 13 new players – including two goalkeepers.

The situation regarding their custodians reached breaking point last season and frankly, it proved a farcical situation.

Matz Sels signed in January from Strasbourg and his form was so good that he could now claim the Belgium gloves at Euro 2024.

One signing that hasn’t worked out is that of Matt Turner who cost Forest £10 million from Arsenal last summer.

Now, it looks as though Forest have made a decision on the USMNT number one with the summer window now open for business.

Nottingham Forest make decision on Matt Turner

The Reds are in talks to sign Brazilian custodian Carlos Miguel this summer and that will mean a reshuffle.

Now, according to Alan Nixon from The Sun, it would appear that Forest are willing to sell Turner before the season starts.

The American made 21 appearances for Forest in his maiden campaign at the City Ground, keeping just three clean sheets.

Turner conceded 31 goals during his time between the posts and ultimately he made several high-profile errors.

In January, Turner was slammed by Premier League great Shay Given for his performance during a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

It’s claimed in the report that Forest will definitely consider a sale and he’s being courted by some clubs in Europe.

Furthermore, Forest won’t be hard to deal with during these negotiations, with the Reds desperate to raise some transfer funds.

Turner has proved disastrous City Ground signing

This one simply hasn’t worked out for Forest.

To go from having Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas to Turner is a serious drop in standards from a goalkeeping perspective.

The 29-year-old was a late bloomer in terms of being a professional footballer and he arrived at Forest with little football to his name.

His inexperience cost Forest last season and selling him now looks like the only option.

If Forest do get Miguel over the line from Corinthians he would provide decent competition for a place with Sels.

Turner is at the age where being the third choice doesn’t bear thinking about and selling him makes a great deal of sense.
