Fabrizio Romano now identifies ‘the issue’ stalling Douglas Luiz exit from Aston Villa

One issue within Douglas Luiz’s transfer from Aston Villa to Juventus has caused the deal to stall.

Aston Villa have their eyes firmly on June 30th as the club bids to aid their PSR concerns with sales.

Douglas Luiz, Jhon Duran and Philippe Coutinho are amongst those linked to an exit, with Luiz’s departure picking up pace in recent weeks.

That being said, the proposed swap deal with Juventus involving Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior has now slowed for one reason.

Fabrizio Romano explains the problem with Douglas Luiz exit from Aston Villa

On Monday evening, Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio explained that Luiz’s exit from Villa was ‘blocked’ due to Weston McKennie.

Di Marzio claimed that there was ‘no definitive agreement’ between the United States international and Villa although, Fabrizio Romano shared a different insight.

Taking to his Youtube channel to provide a transfer round-up, Romano highlighted what ‘the issue’ within the deal is.

“There is an agreement between Douglas Luiz, his agents and Juventus, what is missing is the agreement between McKennie and Juventus on the exit conditions.

“The exit of Weston McKennie means that he will change his contract by joining Aston Villa and Juventus have to cooperate with that part of the contract.

“This is the issue but it’s between McKennie and Juventus, not between McKennie and Aston Villa.”

Romano’s statement differed from Di Marzio’s, with Villa not believed to be a part of the current problem stalling McKennie’s move to the Premier League.

Villa will want to get the Luiz sale completed quickly

Given that Villa will want to get the deal over the line before June 30th, there will be hope that the transactoin can regather speed ahead of next week.

Iling-Junior has reportedly agreed terms with Villa, meaning the deal is only being stalled by McKennie’s terms with Juventus on departure.

The transfer will relieve some of Villa’s PSR concerns, seeing the two Juve players arrive at Villa Park plus €20m, with more exits expected to follow ahead of July.

Both McKennie and Luiz are preparing for the upcoming Copa America, with the two midfielders actually coming up against each other last week in a pre-tournament friendly.

Now that Luiz’s exit is expected, Villa fans and of course, Monchi and Emery, will be eager to get the deal over the line quickly to ensure PSR is not breached ahead of the June 30th deadline.
