Wolves are now set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Pedro Lima, with one factor proving essential to the Old Gold’s hijack of the transfer.

On Monday evening, it was announced that Wolves had hijacked Chelsea’s move for Brazilian wonderkid Pedro Lima.

The 17-year-old was poised to join the Blues via Strasbourg after impressing in his homeland however, Wolves had different ideas and made a swoop for the teenager.

Matheus Cunha is rumoured to have played a role in the deal by exchanging words with the starlet, with one other factor seeing the transfer move in a different direction.

How Wolves hijacked Chelsea’s move for Pedro Lima

It was always expected that Lima would come to an agreement with Chelsea, as even Cunha braced himself for the transfer.

The Wolves star said that he wanted to play with Lima at Wolves but had come to terms with the fact that the teenager had ‘made his decision’ to join the Blues.

Wolves’ hijacking came as a shock, with Brazilian journalist Carlyle now explaining how the Old Gold got the deal to change direction.

On X, the journalist explained that Lima’s ‘desire to play in the Premier League’ played a significant part in him joining Wolves instead of Chelsea.

“In addition to the higher value, the player’s desire to play in the Premier League also played a role in the negotiation.

“Chelsea would transfer the athlete to Frenchman Strasbourg for a period of adaptation to European football. With Wolves, the player would go straight to England.”

It was a surprising transfer and one that continued Wolves’ encouraging start to the summer window, with their third capture of 2024/25 now all but confirmed.

Lima signing is impressive for Wolves

Lima will join Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle as Wolves’ opening three signings of the 2024/25 transfer window.

Doyle made his move from Manchester City permanent, while the Midlands club beat Atletico Madrid to the capture of Gomes from Braga.

Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs have now acquired three top young talents early into the summer, in what hints at an incredibly bright future at Molineux.

After breaking into the Brazilian Serie B last term, the role that Lima will play is not clear although, given the talent that O’Neil gave a chance to last term, Wolves could be the perfect club for the teenager to blossom with.
