Report: Newcastle United would absolutely love to sign £60m 'superstar' this summer

Newcastle United have signalled their intent to sign a marquee player this summer.

PIF have made some big signings in the past, and it looks like this summer will be no different at St James’ Park. We have had mega money deals for Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali, who are the Magpies’ two most expensive signings.

Now they could be joined by another mega money addition, as Eddie Howe goes in search of a right winger.

It looks like that is where most of Newcastle‘s transfer budget will go, and they have already made their first move to sign a player who has a release clause worth £60million.

Newcastle interested in Michael Olise

That is how much it will cost to sign Michael Olise, who is attracting interest from Newcastle United.

It was reported last week that the Magpies had initiated contract with Crystal Palace about a deal, as they aim to bring the 22-year-old to Tyneside.

But that will not be easy, with Olise attracting a lot of interest. Most of the noise seems to be about Chelsea right now, with the attacker certainly not short of suitors. Bayern Munich are also keen, as well as the two Manchester clubs – City and United.

How Newcastle United feel about Michael Olise

Then there is Newcastle, who do not have the lure of European football to tempt Olise to the North East.

But they do have an exciting project to sell, which Toon officials will hope can convince the former Reading star to join Eddie Howe’s side.

And, according to the Athletic, Olise is a player who Newcastle United really would love to sign.

However, the Athletic add that Newcastle have been expecting the Palace winger to go elsewhere for a long time.

Tough for Newcastle to tempt ‘superstar’ to St James’ Park

In truth, that feels likely. Given the other clubs in the mix, it is difficult to see how Newcastle United can stand out.

The other four clubs mentioned can offer European football, with two of them in the Champions League in Man City and Bayern Munich. As for Man United, they may have a special appeal as Olise is believed to have grew up as a Red Devils fan. Meanwhile, it could be a case of unfinished business for Chelsea, which is where Olise spent time during his youth career.

And they all have their own projects to sell. In contrast, that is all Newcastle have got, plus the chance to play for Eddie Howe, who has a reputation for making players better.

That might not be enough to convince Olise, who has been called a ‘superstar‘ by Jamie Carragher, to join Newcastle, which may force the Magpies to look elsewhere.

But Toon officials are at least rolling the dice and shooting their shot, after making the first move to try and sign Olise. It is a signal of intent, and a clear indication that a fee of £60million will not put them off.
