Newcastle United appear to have made their first move in their search to sign a new right winger.
That looks likely to be where the majority of Newcastle United‘s transfer budget goes, with Eddie Howe looking to make four more signings following the arrival of Lloyd Kelly. He has joined the Magpies on a free transfer, with Howe lauding the 25-year-old for his versatility and leadership skills.
His arrivals beefs up Newcastle’s defensive ranks, but it is in the final third where Howe needs an extra sprinkling of quality.
The Magpies need an improvement on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, and have been linked with plenty of players who would be exactly that.
Jarrod Bowen is a target but would likely to be too expensive, and you would imagine the same goes for Michael Olise. However, that has not stopped Toon officials from making a move for the Crystal Palace superstar.
Newcastle United make first move for Michael Olise
Olise has been linked with Newcastle for a while, and now the club have made their first move to try and bring him to St James’ Park.
That is according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, who has reported that Newcastle United have contacted Crystal Palace about the possibility of signing the 22-year-old.
He states that Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also spoke to the Eagles, informing them that they would like to negotiate personal terms with Olise.
The attacker has a release clause in his contact, which Ornstein states is worth around £60million. He adds that Chelsea are willing to pay that amount, but whether Newcastle feel the same remains to be seen.
It would be quite the coup if Newcastle pull off Olise transfer
Newcastle want players who can take them to the next level, and Olise is exactly that. The thought of him playing alongside Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack is tantalising.
However, it is difficult to envision him arriving at St James’ Park, despite Newcastle signalling their intent to sign him.
Olise also has Chelsea and Bayern Munich chasing him, while Manchester United and Manchester City are also keen. They are all footballing juggernauts, so it is hard to see how Newcastle can make themselves stand out.
There is also the issue of no European football, which makes attracting players even tougher.
But it is great to see that Newcastle are at least trying to sign players of Olise’s calibre, while the club must at least have intentions of paying £60million for him if they have gone as far to contact Crystal Palace about doing a deal.
If Olise did arrive for £60million, he would become the second most expensive player in Newcastle United’s history behind Alexander Isak, who cost £63million in 2022.
