Leeds United may now have to reduce asking price again, 49ers have already taken £2m off - opinion

Leeds United reduced their asking price for one player they are keen to sell this week but after last night, it might be that The Whites may have to reduce it even further.

A number of players will be moved on by Leeds this summer, the likeliest being Crysencio Summerville who is the subject of an approach from Brighton and could go for a fee of £35m in the coming months.

Others likely to go are the five players who used Victor Orta’s loan clause last summer, who are yet to sort out their future. Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch and Luis Sinisterra know who they will play for next term.

But nothing has been confirmed in terms of Jack Harrison, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca and Max Wober. The latter endured a difficult outing last night for Austria against France in Germany.

Wober spent last season on loan at Gladbach after jumping ship with the help of Orta’s clause. The left-footed defender could not deal with France’s blistering attack and was perhaps lucky not to be sent off.

Leeds may have to make Max Wober decision this summer

Wober started in the middle of the defence and early on, was shown a yellow for a desperate lunge on Ousmane Dembele. Then, Wober’s positioning was wrong, inadvertently putting the ball in his own net.

Immediately after the start of the second half, he nudged Antoine Griezmann into the advertising boards and was lucky not to be shown a second yellow or even concede a free-kick, Griezmann left bloodied.

A dismal showing that culminated in Wober being taken off after the hour mark. On the biggest stage, Wober flopped and it wasn’t just a bad showing, it was a catalogue of disasters in front of all to see.

Leeds reduced Wober price tag this week, is it enough?

Initial reports stated Leeds wanted £14.5m for a player they bought for less than that in January 2023. Then this week, further reports said Leeds were ‘demanding’ £12.5m, reducing the price tag by £2m.

Given Wober has produced such a catastrophically bad display on the world stage, his stock is only going to drop. If Leeds are going to be able to sell Wober, their previous price tag seems incredibly unlikely.

Having already reduced how much they want for Wober this week with Gladbach unwilling to pay £12.5m, Monday night’s outing may be a sign that Leeds need to request even less in order to get Wober sold.
