'I think': Journalist shares what Leeds United plan to do with £30m fee they could be about to receive

Leeds United could be set for a large influx of cash if the latest reports surrounding Crysencio Summerville are correct.

Summerville was immediately tipped to be one of the first for the Elland Road exit door after Leeds’ play-off final defeat to Southampton, though it has been a quiet few weeks since then.

However, following the opening of the transfer window on Friday, Brighton & Hove Albion finally became the first team to make a move by opening talks with Whites officials.

Brighton are just one of several sides interested in the 22-year-old with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea also having been linked.

However, Fabrizio Romano believes the next few days could prove vital to Brighton getting a deal done in order to beat off the competition early, while paying a fee they deem suitable.

Alex Crook shares what Leeds plan to do with £30m they could receive for Crysencio Summerville

Speaking on talkSPORT, journalist Alex Crook has provided a fresh update on the speculation surrounding Summerville but more so what it could mean from Leeds‘ perspective.

Summerville scored 19 goals and provided nine assists last season as he was crowned the Championship POTS, and so clearly he is going to take some replacing.

However, the reality of being a Championship club for a second season means player sales are more necessary to ensure they remain compliant with PSR, amid a reduction in parachute payments from the Premier League.

Crook, though, had somewhat of a positive update regarding what Leeds plan to do with the money they receive, which could be in excess of £30 million.

He says Leeds are certainly planning to ‘reinvest’ that money back into the squad, which would backup claims made by chairman Paraag Marathe earlier this month.

He said: “I don’t expect them (Brighton and Hove Albion) to have a free run at Summerville. I think a lot of Premier League clubs have him on their radar.

“There has been talk of Liverpool, although I am told maybe that interest has cooled slightly. It’s going to be a good deal for Leeds. I think they are pricing him at around £30 million, so money to reinvest in their squad potentially.”

Who could Leeds replace Summerville with?

First and foremost, the most important thing for Leeds when it comes to identifying a replacement is ensuring they can replicate a similar sort of output.

With an xG (expected goals) overperformance of 2.59, Summerville’s finishing was excellent last season and so someone as efficient will need to be brought in.

On the ambitious side of things, a return to Elland Road for Sunderland’s Jack Clarke could be interesting. He also out-performed his xG significantly in 2023/24, though might be too expensive.

Others include Fabio Carvalho on loan from Liverpool, where a deal could be made more possible if they themselves make a concrete offer for Summerville. It will certainly be interesting to see who they target, and of what price bracket.
