BBC Sport commentator says Radu Dragusin did something for Romania which Tottenham fans won’t have seen before

BBC Sport commentator Steve Wilson claimed Radu Dragusin did something for Romania yesterday which Tottenham Hotspur fans have not seen from him yet.

This summer’s Euros are now well underway with all of Tottenham Hotspur‘s representatives having took to the pitch for the first time.

Unlike years gone by, Ange Postecoglou‘s side only have four players who are currently at the tournament.

The latest to play was the Romanian centre-back as his nation beat Ukraine 3-0 in their opening game of the tournament.

Having not played a great deal of football for Spurs since making the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January, this provided Spurs fans with one of their first looks at the 22-year-old.

Having started for his country on Monday afternoon, the commentator for BBC Sport admitted he was amazed by what he saw the Spurs man do during the game.

What Steve Wilson said about Radu Dragusin in Romania victory

Since singing for Spurs in January, Dragusin has only been able to rack up 429 minutes of Premier League football across nine appearances.

There were some promising signs towards the backend of the campaign when he played at centre-back as Van de Ven was moved out to left-back due to injury issues.

But defence is a position which Postecoglou is still keen to add to this summer at Tottenham as he knows there is a lot of football to follow this upcoming season.

With that in mind, Dragusin is a player who could quickly become a very important member to what the Australian is building in north London.

Speaking during BBC Sport‘s coverage of the game in Munich, Wilson was left wowed by Dragusin’s surging run in the second half of the game.

“This is Dragusin. Dragusin’s still going and [Vitaliy] Mykolenko’s fouled him,” Wilson said after Dragusin’s impressive run with the ball deep into Ukraine’s half.

“That’s a great run from Radu Dragusin! Tottenham fans haven’t seen that. They haven’t seen much of him at all, to be fair. It’s a brilliant run.”

Should Ange Postecoglou change Tottenham defence to include Radu Dragusin

Having signed Dragusin in the January window as the replacement for Eric Dier, Postecoglou has struggled to work the Romanian into the starting XI.

That has been a result of Cristian Romero and Van de Ven’s solid partnership, but it has left the Romanian seriously struggling for regular game time.

This has called for the Australian to change to a back three to play the trio all at once. However, there would be some issues with that.

For a start, that is not a formation which Postecoglou has used throughout his career and that could see Spurs need more time to adjust if Postecoglou was to suddenly turn to that formation.

With a busy schedule to come over the 2024/25 campaign with Europa League football to play, Dragusin is expected to play a bigger role with rotation set to be key to Tottenham’s success.
