Report: What Crystal Palace plan to do when Marc Guehi comes back from UEFA EURO 2024

Crystal Palace have now decided to do one thing when Marc Guehi returns from his UEFA EURO 2024 exploits with England.

The Crystal Palace No.6 impressed the nation on Sunday with a superb performance in the 1-0 win over Serbia, receiving praise from the likes of Jude Bellingham, Joe Hart, Micah Richards and Gary Lineker, among others.

So, what are Crystal Palace planning to do when Marc Guehi returns from Germany? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace make decision on Marc Guehi

A story from the Daily Mail now states that Crystal Palace plan to offer the £18m defender a new contract when he comes back to England – amid interest from Tottenham and Liverpool.

Manchester United are also said to be keen, and are even willing to include Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the deal.

Guehi currently has just 24 months left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, which will put Crystal Palace in a difficult position next summer if the situation remains unchanged.

At that stage, the England international would be able to leave for a cut-price fee, or even choose to run his contract down and depart on a free transfer in 2026.

The Daily Mail add that Crystal Palace could propose a release clause in any new contract for Guehi which allows him to leave for a fixed fee – similar to the agreements in both Ebere Eze and Michael Olise’s respective deals.

The Eagles are in a very strong position

Whatever happens with Guehi this summer, Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman have put Crystal Palace in a very strong position to deal with the situation.

Firstly, an apparent replacement has already been signed in Chadi Riad – who joined in a £15m move from Real Betis – meaning Crystal Palace can be relaxed, safe in the knowledge there is no need to be held to ransom while haggling for a defender later this window.

For example, had we received around £50m for Guehi before signing another central defender, clubs would surely inflate their asking price, aware of the cash burning a hole in Parish’s pocket.

Additionally, the more Guehi shines at UEFA EURO 2024, the higher his own price tag will soar.

As things stand, Parish and Freedman really have handled this situation well – to say the least.
