‘Unbelievable’: TalkSPORT pundit reckons £225k-a-week Man City star must be dropped for his country

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that one Manchester City player needs to be dropped from his international side for their next Euros game.

City have more players involved in the current tournament than any other club in the Premier League.

Specifically, 14 members of Pep Guardiola’s squad at the Manchester club are involved in Germany’s European Championship, with nations such as England, Spain, Croatia and Portugal among others being represented by certain City stars.

With the group stage of the competition now in full swing, one specific City player has already found himself being called to be dropped from his international side, despite only playing just one game.

Jamie O’Hara calls for Phil Foden to be dropped from the England team

While hosting a show on talkSPORT, O’Hara said this on the subject of Phil Foden and how he was deployed in a left-wing position for England’s recent 1-0 win over Serbia.

He said: “The problem you’ve got now is Phil Foden, the way he has to play – the game has changed. You used to have players like Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale, the game is different now.

“That’s why left footers play on the right and right footers play on the left because of the way they take the ball inside, they play little one-twos around the box to create space.

“Foden, out on the left, he’s just taking the ball on the outside of his foot all the time, it’s not natural for him to play in that role. I just thought it was such a waste.

“We had this conversation last night, I think Foden is going to have to get dropped and that’s unbelievable that we have to have that conversation but he’s going to have to be left out of the team.”

Foden needs to be more confident in next England game

In Sunday’s opening group game against Serbia, which the Three Lions won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jude Bellingham, Foden completed the full 90 minutes whilst playing in a left-wing role.

Despite that, the City star only made one key pass and failed to register even one attempt at goal or even one dribble.

While there has been some talk of the £225k-a-week City player being used in the wrong position by Gareth Southgate, with Alan Shearer saying that it doesn’t get the best out of him, we feel that Foden should be playing with more confidence and freedom that would allow him to be a creative force for his country.

So rather than dropping him from the team as O’Hara mentioned, we feel that a positional change would be better for him and the England team as a whole.
