Russia deploys 40 warships to Pacific ahead of Putin’s DPRK visit

Russia will also send about 20 airplanes and helicopters to the area. The exercises will last until June 28 in the Pacific Ocean, Sea of Japan, and Sea of Okhotsk.

Russia reports that the exercises are allegedly designed to practice anti-submarine warfare and defense against air attacks.

Putin arrives in Pyongyang on June 18 to meet with dictator Kim Jong-Ung, the first visit to Pyongyang since 2000.

White House spokesman John Kirby said that the United States is concerned about deepening of relations between Russia and North Korea, in particular, how it will affect the war in Ukraine and security on the Korean Peninsula.
