Radu Dragusin reveals what he’s heard about Tottenham’s interest in Italy’s Riccardo Calafiori

Radu Dragsin’s agent has now issued his understanding on whether Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Riccardo Calafiori.

Since signing for Tottenham in the January transfer window, it has been a difficult few months for Radu Dragusin when it comes to nailing down regular game time.

But he has shown his quality the handful of opportunities he has been handed by Ange Postecoglou.

The Romanian did, however, put in one of the performances of this summer’s European Championships so far when his side beat Ukraine 3-0 on Monday.

Having struggled to land regular game time due to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero‘s formidable partnership, there have been some question marks about Postecoglou’s use of the defender.

And as the summer transfer window opens for business, Postecoglou is expected to bolster his defence with even more additions going into the new campaign.

Are Tottenham Hotspur showing interest in Riccardo Calafiori?

Having seen Eric Dier leave in January for Bayern Munich on loan – which has since been made official – additions at centre-back have been needed.

Bringing in Dragusin certainly helped that, but Van de Ven has proven he is more than susceptible to suffering from hamstring injuries.

With Europa League football to play next season, Spurs are going to need a squad filled with quality options so Postecoglou can rotate without lowering the ability of his side.

And that has seen Tottenham linked with the Bologna centre-back Calafiori this summer following an impressive campaign in Serie A.

However, speaking to TV Play, Dragusin’s agent Florin Manea commented on Tottenham’s claimed interest in Calafiori this summer.

“Tottenham on Calafiori? From what I know, Spurs aren’t looking for a pure central defender, they are more looking for a flexible defender. In any case, Dragusin is ready for anything, he is not afraid of competition,” he said.

“I’m not worried [about Dragusin] because such a strong defender cannot be stopped, his growth cannot be slowed down. However, Tottenham have always placed their trust in him and have faced very strong attackers in Serie A. The only one who seriously put him in difficulty was Lautaro but we’re talking about when Dragusin played for Salernitana.”

Tottenham would seriously need to convince Riccardo Calafiori

Much like Dragusin, Calafiori seriously impressed in his first game at this summer’s Euros for Italy as they beat Albania 2-1.

The 22-year-old received a lot of praise for his display over the weekend for his nation as he announced himself outside of the Italian top flight.

However, if he is to leave this summer, he will surely now be looking for a side who can offer him regular football at a top level.

And as Dragusin has already experienced, Spurs are not currently the club to offer that.

Calafiori would arrive at Tottenham having to battle for a spot in the starting XI, alternatively there could be clubs like Juventus – who now have Bologna’s old manager Thiago Motta – who are reportedly keen and could offer more regular game time.
