Arsenal should hijack Newcastle’s move for £35m player who is currently at Euro 2024 - opinion

Arsenal certainly have a lot of talent to scout at Euro 2024 this month and next, amid a busy summer for Mikel Arteta and the club.

If reports are to be believed, Edu has a small squad overhaul to conduct this summer, moving several players on and then welcoming upgrades.

It’s already been announced that both Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares will be leaving the club, two fondly-regarded faces of the past in north London, ones not required for the future.

And whilst it’s not so definitive with the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale, it seems that they will also depart.

Four senior players who could leave, and that’s not even to mention Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who are both free to leave Arsenal this summer.

And whilst a lot of replacements have been linked with the club at both left-back and in midfield, signing a new goalkeeper to compete with David Raya will be equally as important.

According to reports, Ramsdale has made it clear that he wants to leave Arsenal, and the club are not going to stand in his way.

Arsenal should hijack Newcastle’s move for Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili

Right now, Feyernoord’s Justin Bijlow and Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin have been linked with Arsenal as Ramsdale replacements.

But are Arsenal missing a trick?

Georgia number one Giorgi Mamardashvili has just enjoyed an incredible season with Valencia, a 23-year-old who already has 17 caps for his country.

And when scouring the goalkeeper market right now, there are few better than the £35m-rated stopper.

Mamardashvili is famed for his high-claims, able to thwart opponent attacks in a similar fashion to Raya.

And whilst the Georgian might not be so proficient with his feet, it’s definitely something he can improve given his age and experience.

Given the season Mamardashvili has enjoyed he’s unlikely to want to settle as second-choice at any club, but that shouldn’t be seen as a negative for Arsenal.

And with Ukraine’s Lunin suffering a shaky start to Euro 2024, many clubs will be watching Mamardashvili closely, aware of his rich potential.

Moreover, given that Newcastle are said to have made a bid for Mamardashvili, Arsenal should be presenting interest of their own.

All that being said, Arsenal are said to be preparing a bid for a £50m defender who has been ‘fantastic’ at Euro 2024.
