'I'm hearing'... Big money target 'super keen' to join Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano explains new transfer activity in 'recent days'

Manchester United are working hard behind the scenes to try and bring players in, with the transfer window now open.

Erik ten Hag wants to get players in at Manchester United before the team report for pre-season in July.

Ineos are working behind the scenes to try and make this happen, but we have seen enough transfer windows through the years to be wary that the best intentions often run into difficulty.

United have already begun the bidding for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. But the opening offer was knocked back by the Toffees.

Jarrad Branthwaite wants to sign

Jarrad Branthwaite has provisionally agreed personal terms with Manchester United via his representatives.

Everton continue to hold out for a higher fee towards the £70 million range, with United weighing up alternative options in case there is no breakthrough.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update via his podcast, and he insists Branthwaite wants to land the dream move to Old Trafford.

He explains: “Branthwaite is super keen on the move to Manchester United.

“He would like to join Man United even if they don’t play Champions League football next season, but again, the price will be crucial.

“So something fair or Manchester United will go for another target. This is the message, but we also have to respect Everton.”

Everton’s financial situation will be key. A need to meet Premier League rules means they could need to cash in before the end of June.

The 21-year-old centre-back will stay respectful towards the Toffees, but his actions agreeing personal terms over a move are in itself, a clear indication he is ready to jump at the step up.

Branthwaite impressed against United last season, and there is a lot more to come from the defender who is a future England international regular.

Manchester United making midfield moves

Centre-back is not the only position Manchester United want to strengthen. One of the potential areas to improve is in midfield, with Christian Eriksen and possibly Casemiro expected to be moved on.

Romano explains that in recent days, Manchester United have begun activity in this area, although does not name names.

He said: “We know they’re working on several things. Keep an eye also on midfielders, because what I’m hearing is that in the recent days, Manchester United, behind the scenes, also started inquiring about some midfielders on the market.

“So let’s see if they will enter into concrete negotiations.”
