'Hiccups': Italian journalist has just provided interesting update on Douglas Luiz swap deal

Italian journalist Luca Marchetti has shared an interesting update on the proposed swap deal for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz to join Juventus.

Douglas Luiz appeared to be closing in on a switch to Juventus this week, in a deal which would see Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior head to Villa Park.

The Brazilian midfielder has agreed terms with Juve but McKennie is reportedly yet to reach an agreement with Aston Villa on personal terms.

The Old Lady are hoping to secure a player plus cash deal for Luiz and Fabrizio Romano stated just yesterday that the deal remains ‘absolutely on’, claiming the problem lies between McKennie and Juve agreeing to his exit.

Now Sky Sports Italy journalist, Luca Marchetti, has shared an interesting update on Luiz’s proposed move to Turin.

Weston McKennie could be replaced in Luiz swap deal

With McKennie reportedly struggling to agree terms on his exit from Juventus, Marchetti has suggested a different player could be involved in the deal.

But the journalist did label that possibility ‘unlikely’ and claimed Villa will be keen to find a solution ahead of the PSR deadline on June 30.

“The stumbling block to overcome today is represented by the demands of McKennie’s entourage,’ the journalist said.

“So either an agreement is found or the American will have to be replaced by someone else, but the second hypothesis seems more unlikely to me.

“Some hiccups in a negotiation that involves so many parties is normal, also because all the players involved want to make their own importance count in the exchange and therefore try to maximise their income.

“Certainly, Aston Villa has an unquestionable deadline related to financial fair play, which is 30 June.”

Crucial week ahead for Villa

Time is ticking for Villa as they bid to raise funds ahead of the Premier League’s PSR deadline in just 11 days.

Losing Luiz will come as a huge blow for Emery but McKennie did enjoy an impressive campaign at Juventus last time out.

The USMNT international racked up 34 appearances and provided seven assists in Serie A. He also created three goals in four appearances in cup competitions.

Emery has a brilliant track record of improving players and should McKennie’s move to Villa go through, you’d imagine the Spaniard will be confident of getting the best out of the midfielder.
