Report: European club confirm 'special' Sheffield Wednesday target will leave the club this summer

One of Sheffield Wednesday’s targets are set to leave their current club this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are already closing in on their third signing of the summer, with Yan Valery set for a medical this week.

The defender will join Max Lowe and Ben Hamer as the early arrivals, following the opening of the transfer window on Friday.

The Owls appear to have prioritised their defence so far, but could now look further up the pitch.

Wednesday have already been linked with Brest winger Karamoko Dembele, following his sensational loan spell at Blackpool.

After failing to impress since he broke onto the scene with Celtic as a teenager, Dembele went onto join Brest but didn’t score a single goal.

He joined Blackpool last summer and picked up eight goals and 13 assists, as the Seasiders narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

His successful loan stint in League One saw him gain plenty of interest, with Wednesday one team that are interested in signing him.

They have now been handed a huge boost, with Brest’s sporting director Gregory Lorenzi confirming to L’Equipe that Dembele will now leave the French outfit.

Dembele has a year left on his contract and will now be sold, with Brest preparing to compete in the Champions League next term.

Danny Rohl’s side will face huge competition to sign the ‘special’ attacker though, with the likes of Blackpool, West Ham and Everton also monitoring him.

Sheffield Wednesday face a huge challenge to sign him

Dembele surely won’t have a huge price tag given that he will be entering the final 12 months of his contract, however Brest will definitely look to take advantage of his form and the high interest in him.

Wednesday will likely struggle to compete with these other clubs financially though, especially given he is also attracting interest from the Premier League.

However, Dembele will surely want to be sensible and not take a huge leap up to the top flight. Joining the likes of West Ham and Everton would most likely guarantee him a place on the bench.

It is definitely a transfer that Wednesday should pursue, but one that would be very difficult to get across the line.
