Report: Leeds United keeping tabs on Red Bull-owned £4m striker described as 'next Haaland'

Leeds United are considering a move for a striker currently in action at Euro 2024 who has been likened to Erling Haaland in the past, as The 49ers look to get the ball rolling this summer.

Leeds are yet to make any signings but have secured the return of Brenden Aaronson after his loan at Union Berlin. It was expected USA’s Copa America star would be sold, or sent on loan again this summer.

But earlier this month, Aaronson confirmed he is returning to Elland Road as he feels he has unfinished business at Leeds. It solves the lack of options in the no.10 role ahead of a second push for promotion.

Leeds struggled at times last season from set-pieces, and to break a low block. Daniel Farke’s men often lacked something a bit different, perhaps a target man to score goals from a set-piece or hold the ball up.

Leeds now considering a move for Serbia’s Euro 2024 striker

It seems The 49ers are eyeing a move to change that, with Ben Jacobs reporting on Give Me Sport’s site that Leeds are interested in signing RedBull Salzburg striker Petar Ratkov after Red Bull’s investment.

Leeds of course have done plenty of business with Salzburg in the past, bringing in the likes of Rasmus Kristensen, Max Wober and Aaronson from the Austrian giants over the course of the past two years.

Ratkov is also a target for Rangers, who tried to sign the Serbia ace last summer but failed with Ratkov choosing to join Salzburg for £4m. Given he is currently at Salzburg, he’s been coined the ‘next Haaland’.

Leeds need players in every position, apart from a striker

Illan Meslier’s future is always a bit of a doubt in goal and a right-back is crucial, after Connor Roberts left and Archie Gray is likely to move into midfield. Joe Rodon needs replacing in the middle of the defence.

In midfield, cover is required if Ethan Ampadu is going to remain in central defence. Cover is required on the left for Junior Firpo, while Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto are likely to leave Leeds soon.

So, new singers will be signed especially with Jaidon Anthony also departing. But up top, Leeds are well-stocked with Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe. While Ratkov looks decent, he’s not a priority.
