Report: Manager sacked by Nottingham Forest now on course for job with rival club, talks advanced

Steve Cooper was sacked by Nottingham Forest last December and now he might be nearing a return to management.

It proved a heartbreaking time forForest supporters when Cooper was handed his papers.

The 44-year-old has overseen a run of one win in 14 games and it was the third time he’d endured such a rotten spell since reaching thePremier League.

However,Cooper will never be forgotten by supporters for winning promotion with the Reds in 2021/22.

The success that the head coach achieved at Forest has been immeasurable in the modern era and for the promotion campaign the club are forever indebted.

Now, after a short sabbatical from the game, it looks as though he might be back in the dugout very soon.

Premier League club advance talks with Steve Cooper

According to The Telegraph, Leicester City have now advanced in talks with Cooper over their managerial vacancy.

Enzo Maresca led Leicester to the Championship title last season but has now jumped ship to join Chelsea.

That has led to the Foxes undergoing an extensive recruitment process and Cooper looks to get the nod.

Interestingly, some reports have been contrasting to those that have broken this morning.

It was claimed by Fabrizio Romano that Graham Potter was actually the man that Leicester had decided on and talks were advancing there.

Now, however, Cooper looks set to get another East Midlands job with the closest team to Forest – in terms of geography – in the Premier League.

Cooper legacy remains intact at Forest

This does feel like a bit of a strange one from a Leicester perspective – it has to be said.

Although Cooper is clearly a good coach and man manager, his record in the Premier League with Forest was pretty drab.

Okay, many will point to the fact that he kept Forest in the Premier League but the football served up was largely disappointing.

Still, Cooper is a coach with a decent track record in the Championship and nurturing younger players.

With the squad relatively short of experience at the King Power Stadium, perhaps the club have one eye on utilising more younger players.

Forest and Leicester aren’t considered huge rivals – unless you’re of a Leicester persuasion – and Reds supporters are unlikely to hold this against Cooper too much.

It will be fascinating to see how things go for Cooper and he will be hoping to prove that he does have what it takes when it comes to managing in the Premier League.
