How Portuguese media reacted to Pedro Neto's display in Portugal win v Czech Republic at Euro 2024

Wolves winger Pedro Neto impressed on international duty last night, with the media in Portugal having their say on his performance.

All eyes at Molineux were on the Euros on Tuesday night, as three Wolves stars opened their Euro 2024 campaign.

Pedro Neto, Jose Sa and Nelson Semedo are the Old Gold’s representatives on show for Portugal, with Semedo and Neto coming on as substitutes during their nation’s Group F opener.

While the Wolves duo were introduced in injury time, one player made a match-winning impact, as Neto shone in his short cameo.

Portuguese media rave over Pedro Neto cameo against Czech Republic

Despite only being on the pitch for a matter of minutes, Neto made a significant impact as he assisted Francisco Conceicao’s winning goal in the 92nd minute.

The way in which Neto operated to make the chance for the goal was typical of his play that excited so many in the Premier League last season, seeing him lauded for his directness in the dying embers.

Portuguese outlet SIC Noticias compiled a piece rating the best and worst on the night for Portugal, where journalist Joao Rosado handed Neto a 7/10 rating and wrote:

‘It is impossible to ignore the short but equally valuable contribution from the other left-footer that Roberto Martinez launched after regulation time. The play that earned the second Portuguese goal was all carried out by the winger.

‘In a system with three defenders, Neto feels particularly comfortable and after the rabbit he pulled out of the hat against Czech Republic, he may have achieved much more than the assist in Conceicao’s goal. Will he be a starter in Dortmund?’

Such levels of wing play are standard for Neto, who made his mark early on in his Euro 2024 adventure, giving Roberto Martinez something to consider in the next game.

Neto will be thrilled with his instant impact for Portugal

Given Neto’s father’s reaction to his son making the Portugal squad for the tournament, the Wolves star’s display will have thrilled many.

After a domestic campaign that was equally as thrilling as it was tainted by injury, the 24-year-old was somewhat surprised to make Martinez’s squad for the competition.

It’s fantastic to see the winger making an impact for his country on a stage as big as the Euros, considering that he missed both the 2020 Euros and the 2022 World Cup due to injury.

Wolves will be hopeful that Neto will continue to perform at a high level throughout the summer, with a tournament underway that could significantly impact his price tag if he is to part ways with the club.
