'Progress this morning': £10m Leeds player has just got closer to leaving Elland Road today - journalist

Leeds United have this morning made progress on sealing their first permanent sale of the summer.

With £73 million of unpaid transfer instalments in need of paying before June 30, the Whites know permanent player exits will be needed during the final two weeks of this month.

Though Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams’ sales to Bournemouth are included in this financial year, there is still just under half of the aforementioned figure that needs raising.

Red Bull’s sponsorship deal is set to help Leeds when it comes to leeway in the market, but player sales are also going to be important at Elland Road.

Crysencio Summerville is the most high profile name likely to be on his way out, but it would appear another player is instead the closest to the exit door.

Major update shared on Marc Roca’s Leeds future

Leeds will be hoping that the sale of Summerville, as well as some of the returning loanees, will help them when it comes to retaining some of their other key players.

Marc Roca, Max Wober, Rasmus Kristensen, Diego Llorente and Jack Harrison have all seen loan spells come to an end, though the former looks set to tie up a permanent exit imminently.

It was reported by the Spanish press on Tuesday that a deal between Betis and Leeds was close to being agreed, and journalist Beren Cross has now gone one step further.

He says the two clubs have again been in contact this morning and significant progress has been made on reaching an agreement, which could be finalised in the coming days.

Betis did have the option to sign Roca on loan for a second time after Leeds’ failure to win promotion, but had reportedly been close to agreeing a fee lower than the originally agreed option-to-buy.

However, Leeds’ stance according to Cross is that it will ‘not mark up a loss on PSR’, and that they are simply happy to be getting his wages off the books once and for all.

Roca sale to to benefit Leeds’ cash flow

Leeds will receive less in parachute payments from the Premier League than they did last season and so player sales were always going to happen.

Roca was bought for around £10 million from Bayern Munich two years ago and though Leeds aren’t likely to make a profit, it is still going to be hugely beneficial.

His sale is going to hand Leeds an immediate boost in cash flow, which will therefore help when it comes to paying off those transfer instalments.

Leeds are getting ever close to raising the £73 million needed, having still yet to actually sell one of their key men.
