Monchi told one factor makes Aston Villa more likely to sign ‘remarkable’ target than Man Utd

Aston Villa have now learned that they are ahead of Manchester United in the race to secure one transfer target.

The summer transfer window is underway and Aston Villa are eager to dabble in business ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Unai Emery’s side will be playing in the Champions League and will want the squad to match such achievement, making the transfer market the place for Monchi to be.

That being said, Villa must first focus on departures in order to raise funds to alleviate their PSR concerns, with several players already linked with a move away.

Once the PSR cloud has cleared, one talent that could make his way to Villa Park is rumoured to be more likely to sign for Villa than another Premier League side.

Aston Villa more likely to sign transfer target Jean-Clair Todibo than Manchester United

At the start of the month, it was reported that Villa were interested in Jean-Clair Todibo, with Manchester United also eyeing the centre-back.

L’Equipe’s initial report claimed that Villa could acquire the OGC Nice star for as low as £21m this summer, causing many clubs to be alerted to his movements.

Now, FootMercato have reported that not only are Villa still in the picture, but are more likely to sign Todibo than their Premier League rivals.

Their report states that while the 24-year-old has been linked to Manchester United, Villa are the more likely side to acquire the defender.

FootMercato goes on to mention Villa’s Champions League involvement next season, something that United cannot offer the Ligue 1 commander.

As expected for a centre-back of Todibo’s calibre, a vast array of clubs are said to be taking notice of the Frenchman’s plans ahead of next term.

Champions League qualification was integral for Villa

Gaining entry to the spectacle that is the Champions League was crucial for Villa for more reasons than competing amongst the best.

Emery and Monchi can now compete for the best in the transfer window, with the latest stance on Todibo proving just that.

Manchester United could of course offer the Frenchman a more lucrative deal however, it is the Champions League that has the ultimate pull on players.

Before the end of the 2022/23 campaign, scout Antonio Mango lauded Todibo’s season at Nice as ‘remarkable’, emphasising his strengths as a ‘ball-playing’ defender.

Such qualities assisted Villa to reach the next level last term, as the introduction of Pau Torres proved to be essential to how Emery wanted his side to play.

Capturing Todibo would certainly be a statement for the Villans given the other sides eyeing his talents, reinforcing the power that being a Champions League club brings.
