Fabrizio Romano drops Douglas Luiz transfer swap update that offers Aston Villa fans hope

Aston Villa’s bid to offload Douglas Luiz to Juventus has taken another turn, as Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

Monchi and Unai Emery are in talks with Juventus over the sale of Douglas Luiz in order to alleviate PSR concerns.

Aston Villa need to generate profit before June 30th to avoid breaching PSR, meaning the race is on to get Luiz off the books and to Serie A.

While the deal developed at a rapid speed at first, it has now slowed due to one element of the player swap, with Weston McKennie causing talks to stall.

Aston Villa are considering options aside from Weston McKennie as part of Douglas Luiz deal

This week has seen a lot of speculation arise regarding McKennie’s stance on the proposed move to Villa.

There is an understanding that the United States international has struggled to agree on the financial details of leaving Juventus, with another update now putting the deal in jeopardy.

According to Fabrizio Romano, as of contact on Wednesday, there is still no agreement between club and player on such exit conditions.

As a result, Romano relayed that McKennie could now be removed from the deal involving Luiz, adding that both Villa and Juve are ‘considering other options’.

Most importantly, it’s stressed that Villa will only proceed with the swap transfer if they are satisfied with the technical and financial factors of the deal.

Villa fans might be happy to hear of McKennie doubts

While there may be a concern regarding how the deal has failed to progress, Villa fans in particular will be relieved to hear that McKennie may not arrive at Villa Park after all.

The 25-year-old has a poor reputation in the Premier League following a horrendous loan spell at Leeds United in 2022/23, suggesting that he is not at the level required to play in the top flight.

Added to that, the midfielder is lacking in the vital technical areas that Emery loves so much about Luiz, signifying that Villa could jeopardise their midfield to facilitate the transfer.

Of course, the most concerning factor now is that the Villans are running out of time to offload the Brazilian before June 30th, with PSR woes looming.

There will be hope that a deal that suits both clubs and Luiz can be struck as Monchi aims to move on swiftly from this ever-changing ordeal.
