Newark Athletic Club takes part in the 38th Gordon Whelbourn Running Week

The 38th Gordon Whelbourn Running Week took place with a series of 5K runs in parks and paths across the area.

Newark Athletic Club completed a course every night from Monday to Friday.

Leigh Marshall, of Newark AC, was the overall fastest male runner over the week to win Dr Simeon Hansard Trophy.

Lewis Hopkinson was second.

They also won their age grade prizes 40-49 and 50-59 respectively.

Ethan Cooper and Thomas Newbould came first and second respectively, in the under-20 category.

Carly Jackson had a great series finishing second overall in the woman and winning the under 20 category.

She had a great race in the Woodhall Spa 10K knocking out a personal best time and a new Newark AC under 20 club record in 40.56 finishing first in her age category.

Dad Lee finished in 41.19 and Marcus Chesterton ran 38.57.

The teams also raced at the Nottinghamshire Amateur Athletics Summer League last Wednesday (June 12) at Wollaston Park.

The men’s senior team and masters team both finished in third place on the night with a strong first place finish by Ed Buck.

The women’s senior team came in second place with another great run by Molly Betmead, finishing in second place.

Other results were: Jas-mine Braithwaite (11th) Alison Monaghan (12th) Carly Jackson (20th) Gillian Newbould (21st) Kimberley Etheringon-Bates (45th) Gabriella Freeman (96th) Lottie Moody (110th) and Kate Ludlam (141st).
