‘Sensational’: Andros Townsend blown away by player Tottenham released at Euro 2024 today

Andros Townsend has raved about a player Tottenham Hotspur released on a free transfer after his latest Euro 2024 display.

Spurs have wasted no time in shifting unwanted players this summer as they continue to build a squad in Ange Postecoglou’s image.

Tanguy Ndombele was the latest to depart as the Frenchman agreed to the mutual termination of his contract a year ahead of schedule.

Ndombele followed four players out the door after Spurs also released Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon earlier this month.

Perisic looks set for a permanent move to his boyhood club Hajduk Split after spending the second half of last season on loan in Croatia.

But first, the veteran winger is focused on yet another major tournament with Croatia and he’s earned huge praise from former Spurs star Andros Townsend.

Townsend raves about former Tottenham star Ivan Perisic

Perisic started on the left-hand side as Croatia faced a crucial clash against Albania at Euro 2024 today.

The 35-year-old provided a real threat with his deliveries throughout the game but Croatia were undone by a late equaliser and were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Despite a disappointing result for Perisic, his display led to Townsend raving about his ability from wide areas on ITV‘s coverage of the game.

“Oh my god. It’s sensational,” the former Tottenham man said. “What can you do with a man who’s both-footed like that who has an incredible cross with both left and right foot. Been a joy to watch.”

Commentator Seb Hutchinson then asked: “Should Tottenham have kept him?”

Tottenham missed Perisic last season

Despite leaving on a free transfer, Perisic was proving to be an important option for Postecoglou off the bench at the start of last season.

An ACL injury he picked up in September ultimately led to him missing nine months of action and a move back to Croatia made sense for the veteran.

With that being said, many Spurs fans would have probably been happy to see Perisic stay last season had he avoided picking up an injury.

The Croatian star had registered one assist in five substitute appearances and after Manor Solomon’s injury, Postecoglou was lacking real depth out wide.
