Police arrest man accused of sexually assaulting N.J. woman last year

A man accused of physically and sexually assaulting a woman last year in Paterson was arrested Sunday, officials said.

The woman reported on June 17, 2023 that she had been assaulted the day before in the area of 10th Avenue in East 26th Street in the city and an investigation was launched, according to a release from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Keshawn Harley, 38, of Paterson, was identified as a suspect and he was charged with sexual assault, aggravated assault and simple assault, the office said.

On Sunday, at 10 a.m., Harley was arrested in the area of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street in the city, authorities said.

Prosecutors said they would file a motion for him to remain in jail until his trial begins. That decision will be made during a pretrial detention hearing scheduled for June 25.
