N.J. medical billing employee embezzled $400K from her job, officials say

A Bergen County woman was arrested Tuesday after investigators alleged she embezzled $400,000 from her employer.

The investigation began in March 2022 when the Hackensack Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office about a theft from an unidentified local businesses, the office said in a release.

Detectives from the office said Briana Rodriguez, 36, of Bloomfield, who worked as medical billing professional, embezzled the funds through unauthorized refunds to accounts under her control, authorities said.

No other information about where Rodriguez worked or what she allegedly did was released by the office.

She was arrested outside her home on Tuesday and charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking. She was released pending her first court appearance, officials said.
