1 dead, 3 injured in 3-vehicle crash involving dump truck on N.J. highway

One person died and three others were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in Hunterdon County after a car and dump truck collided and caused the car to hit another vehicle in the opposite lane, investigators said.

The dump truck, which was being driven by a 66-year-old man, and a Toyota sedan being driven by a 64-year-old woman, were both traveling north on Route 31 in Clinton Township around 2 p.m., according to a statement from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.

The dump truck and the Toyota collided in the area of Riley and Jake’s Restaurant and the Toyota went into the southbound lane and hit a Volkswagen being driven by a 17-year-old girl, the office said.

A passenger in the Toyota, Arthur John Latzko, 70, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, died from his injuries at the scene, authorities said.

The woman who was driving the Toyota, the girl driving the Volkswagen and her passenger were all taken to area hospitals, the office said.

No other information was released Wednesday afternoon as the crash was still under investigation by the office and the Clinton Township Police Department.

Anyone with information was asked to the department at 908-735-7230 or the office at 908-788-1129.
