National media deliver intriguing verdict on player Nottingham Forest have just got rid of

Nottingham Forest don’t have too many participants at Euro 2024 but one player who has now departed got some game time last night.

Scotland took on Switzerland last night looking to bounce back after being thrashed 5-1 by Germany in the opener on Friday night.

Scott McTominay gave the Tartan Army the perfect start but Xherdan Shaqiri ensured a share of the spoils for Switzerland.

If Scotland can now beat Hungary on Sunday they would stand a very strong chance of reaching the knockout stages with four points.

One player who was in action was Scott McKenna who has now left Forest at the end of his current contract.

He played for around half an hour last night and we’ve looked at the reaction of the Scottish media to his performance for the national team.

National media deliver verdict on Scott McKenna performance

The central defender has now left Forest and after Euro 2024 he will hope to get hooked up with another club.

McKenna started last season in the first team at Forest but finished it on loan with FC Copenhagen after a contract dispute.

Now, he won’t be back at Forest and it’s a shame that a player who achieved so much with Forest has been allowed to walk away for nothing.

Last night he came on for the final 30 minutes after Kieran Tierney picked up what looked like another hamstring injury.

On his performance, The Herald said: “On for the injured Tierney just over the hour mark. Faultless during his 30 minutes on the pitch.”

McKenna did get cautioned for a clumsy pull on Breel Embolo but otherwise he looked pretty steady as Scotland claimed a valuable point.

McKenna could still do a job at Forest

This might be an unpopular one but we think there was a place in the squad for McKenna at Forest – particularly under Nuno Espirito Santo.

With the Scotland star being left-sided, he could have been the perfect backup for Murillo in the Forest squad.

Although the player does lack a bit of pace for the Premier League, he did at least show signs last season that he was getting to grips with the top division.

Regardless of whether supporters think McKenna was right to be released, nobody can deny the respect he deserves.

The 27-year-old was instrumental in the club’s promotion-winning campaign of 2021/22.

He won the club’s prestigious Player of the Year award and also collected the Player of the Match accolade during the Championship Play-Off Final.

In total, he made 108 appearances for the Reds during his time at the City Ground and it’s a shame how things worked out.

McKenna finished the season playing 15 times for Copenhagen and it will now be interesting to see if he earns a permanent contract in Denmark.
