Fabrizio Romano has late night update about Michael Olise after Newcastle open talks to sign him

Newcastle United have been hit with another Michael Olise update as they look to close in on a deal to sign him this summer.

There has been a bright start to the summer transfer window at St James’ Park with Eddie Howe‘s side announcing the arrival of Lloyd Kelly already.

Newcastle are one of the Premier League sides who find themselves in a position where they need to sell some players to keep themselves on the right side of the PSR rules.

But that has not stopped the Toon from entering talks to sign more players this summer with Newcastle showing a keen interest in Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

With competition fierce to prise the Frenchman away from Selhurst Park, it seems there has been another twist in the race for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano shares Michael Olise update

On Wednesday, journalist Matt Law shared some of the questions hanging over the details of Michael Olise’s current contract at Palace.

This comes as there is a suggestion the player has a £60m release clause in his contract which would need to be triggered.

However, there has now been a new development which may only complicate matters even further for the three clubs believed to be in the race to sign him this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Palace has just offered Olise a new contract with the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea and Bayern Munich circling.

The proposed new deal would see Olise put on an increased salary, but most importantly it would clarify the situation surrounding his release clause.

If the 22-year-old does put pen to paper on this new deal, the Frenchman would have a release clause which would become active next summer.

Michael Olise faces intriguing decision this summer

The Frenchman is certainly receiving interest from clubs which dwarf Palace in terms of their size and resources, but it may not be a straightforward decision for the winger.

Olise could play Champions League football with Bayern Munich, Europa Conference League football with Chelsea or be part of the PIF project on Tyneside.

But he now has a manager at Palace who now seems to be getting a tune out of the likes of him and Eberechi Eze.

Although there may well be exciting proposals on the table, Olise is still just 22 and may consider another season at Palace under Oliver Glasner as a big boost to his development.
