'Understand...': Player now 'set to undertake' Sheffield Wednesday medical 'later today' - journalist

A player is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday have already confirmed two summer signings, and now they look set to confirm a third in the coming days.

The news comes less than a week since the summer transfer window officially opened for business.

Ben Hamer became the first signing of the summer, and also manager Danny Rohl’s first permanent signing at Sheffield Wednesday.

Soon after, Sheffield Wednesday then confirmed the arrival of Max Lowe ahead of his Sheffield United contract expiry this summer.

The signs are positive for Owls fans so far. Several other names have been linked with summer moves to Hillsborough, with owner Dejphon Chansiri seemingly willing to dip into his pockets.

One name linked is Angers right-back Yan Valery; he worked under Rohl at Southampton, with the Owls previously reported to have agreed a deal to sign the 25-year-old.

Yan Valery set for Sheffield Wednesday medical

Valery now looks set to become Sheffield Wednesday’s third signing of the summer after journalist Alex Miller revealed on X that the Tunisian international is set to undergo a medical.

Predominantly a right-back in a back-four at Angers, Valery’s arrival will give Rohl some added freedom with his Sheffield Wednesday formation.

Rohl mainly donned a back-five last season with Pol Valentin the right wing-back, whereas Valery will be better-suited when playing in a back-four which Rohl often experimented with in the Championship.

How much are Sheffield Wednesday paying for Yan Valery

Valery remains under contract at Angers until 2026, so a transfer fee will obviously be required to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday.

And with other teams such as Montpellier and Standard Liege having been in for Valery, it may be safe to assume that his asking price has gone up as the race for his signature has heated up.

Liege put forward a loan-to-buy deal for Valery, with the permanent option reportedly coming in at little over £420,000.

So that figure could be a ballpark for how much Sheffield Wednesday are paying, though an official figure remains to be known.

Angers may have wanted a fee for Valery now rather than waiting until next summer for Liege to pay up, or that fee may simple have not been enough.

Either way, it looks like Valery is set to join Sheffield Wednesday, who are enjoying a very positive start to the summer transfer window under Rohl.
