The Lenovo Tab Plus is the ideal tablet for listening to music

The vast majority of people choose dedicated speakers, even the smallest Bluetooth ones, to listen to music rather than using the built-in ones on their phone or tablet.

Lenovo has a different idea, however, with the new Tab Plus it’s just unveiled. It’s an Android tablet with eight built-in JBL speakers and an advanced hi-fi system with Dolby Atmos tuning.

The device is powered by a MediaTek G99 chipset, which should ensure robust performance for various tasks, and operates on Android 14, with guaranteed OS upgrades for two years and security patches until June 2028.

Memory options include configurations of 8GB of RAM and 128- or 256GB of internal storage, with the ability to expand the latter via a Micro-SD card. Elsewhere, the 11.5-inch 2K (2000 x 1200) LCD display offers a 90Hz refresh rate and 400 nits brightness.

For photography and video calls, the tablet features an 8Mp front camera with fixed focus, plus an 8Mp rear camera with auto focus. The latter will be fine for occasional snaps or document scanning, but probably nothing more serious.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 – neither are the latest standard, but this won’t be a problem for most people. Alongside the usual USB-C port, you also get a 3.5mm audio jack if you prefer wired audio.

The Tab Plus is powered by an 8600mAh battery which Lenovo says will last for up to 12 hours of streaming. It also features 45W fast charging, with Lenovo claiming the battery can go from 0-100% in just 90 minutes.

The tablet comes in only one colour option – Luna Grey – and features an IP52 rating for water and dust resistance. And a 7.77mm and 650g, it’s also relatively thin and light.

However, audio is where the Lenovo Tab Plus truly excels, offering 26W of stereo sound with eight JBL Hi-Fi speakers, including four tweeters and four woofers.

Tuned by Dolby Atmos, Lenovo claims the tablet provides deep bass, and clear treble. It also supports high-res audio of 24-bit and 96kHz frequency when using headphones.

The Tab Plus can also function as a Bluetooth speaker for audio streaming from devices like smartphones, with an integrated kickstand offering up to 175 degrees of viewing flexibility.

Additionally, the personalised app volume control allows users to fine-tune audio settings, automatically adjusting the volume based on the specific app you’re using.

The Lenovo Tab Plus is now available to buy from the Lenovo website, with a starting price of €279 in Europe and $289.99 in the US.

Pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed in the UK, but Lenovo says it’ll be “available in selected retailers priced between £289.99 – £349.99”.
