Exclusive: Arne Slot's already told Liverpool's board there's two players they must keep at Anfield next year

Liverpool have now begun planning for next season under Arne Slot and have agreed to two of their new manager’s demands.

Jurgen Klopp has left Liverpool’s squad in a very healthy position, Slot is inheriting a team full of quality and depth – even if there are still areas to improve.

If Liverpool are active in the transfer market, it seems as if they could seek a new centre-back and a winger.

Slot’s previous sides have relied on their wingers for creativity, preferring direct players who are able to beat a defender one versus one, which should be music to Mohamed Salah’s ears.

In terms of recruiting a centre-back, Joel Matip has departed and Ibrahima Konate’s season ended fairly disappointingly.

But perhaps most significant to those plans is the future of captain Virgil van Dijk.

Fortunately, TBR Football understands that Slot has made it very clear that he wants to keep Van Dijk, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Arne Slot’s top priority is to re-sign Trent Alexander-Arnold to a new Liverpool contract

In addition to wanting to keep Van Dijk, TBR understands that Liverpool’s top priority this summer is to re-sign Alexander-Arnold to a new deal.

TBR has been told that Slot has made clear some of his early squad assessments to the club’s hierarchy and they include wanting to keep the duo mentioned.

Fortunately, the club are happy with Slot’s thinking as they marry up with their ambition to keep both players, but the priority is England star Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back, who is currently playing in midfield for Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024, has just 12-months left on his current deal at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold will become Liverpool’s highest earner

Despite interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Liverpool are confident he will commit his future to the club, becoming their highest paid player.

Of course, given the emergence of Conor Bradley, who Slot is said to be a big fan of, it’ll be interesting to see if the Dutchman also considers using Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

Despite not playing a big role owing to his injury last season, Thiago Alcantara has departed, leaving an opportunity in the middle.

All that being said, Gary Lineker has been wowed by one potential Liverpool target this summer at Euro 2024.
