'I'm in talks with Arsenal': Champions League club director says he wants to buy 'unbelievable' Gunners forward

Arsenal are likely to be busy over the coming weeks as they look to fine-tune their squad ahead of next season.

With the transfer window now open, the Gunners are set to look at both incomings and outgoings before the 2024/25 Premier League campaign gets under way.

Arsenal need to bolster their ranks with solid acquisitions, but also offload players that are surplus to requirements.

There’s a good chance some Hale End graduates could be leaving in the coming weeks, and one in particularly has a very interested suitor.

Arsenal forward Mika Biereth wanted by Sturm Graz

The player in question is Arsenal academy forward Mika Biereth, who impressed on loan at Austrian outfit Sturm Graz in the second half of last season.

Director of football Andreas Schicker is determined to get a deal done, telling Kronen Zeitung that he has been in talks with both the Gunners and Biereth.

“Now the European Championship finals are coming up, everyone is waiting and is in the role of observer,” he said.

“Patience is required in the transfer window this year… I’m in talks with Arsenal. I’ve spoken to Mika; he’s always felt comfortable with us.”

Sturm Graz, who are in the Champions League group stages next season, will reportedly face competition from Sheffield Wednesday for any deal.

Who is Arsenal forward Mika Biereth?

Mika Biereth is a 21-year-old centre-forward who has been on Arsenal’s books since 2021, when he joined from Fulham.

The Denmark Under-21 international has taken in several loan spells during his time at N5. He has also played for Dutch side RKC Waalwijk and Scottish outfit Motherwell.

However, Biereth really came to the fore when playing for Austria’s Sturm Graz in the first half of 2024, registering nine goals and four assists from 22 outings.

Back in 2021, then Arsenal recruitment chief Yousouf Sajjad spoke highly of the Dane, as per OneFootball.

“Mika was one that we looked at for about a year before we signed him,” he said.

“His finishing is obviously unbelievable but it’s the personality that he showed that really captured our eyes.

“He had no problem in getting in the face of centre halves, making it uncomfortable for them.

“He wants to win and will do whatever it takes. He went right up to the line without crossing it every time I watched him.”
