'The best feeling': Ian Fray has emotional reaction after finally making his Inter Miami return vs Columbus Crew

Inter Miami defender Ian Fray has shared his verdict on his comeback appearance for the Florida franchise in last night’s clash against the Columbus Crew.

The 21-year-old defender was named in the Herons’ starting XI for the first time in over a year, after Fray suffered a third consecutive ACL injury in 2023 on Lionel Messi’s debut for Inter Miami in Leagues Cup action.

With Inter Miami short on defenders, Fray last night started in the unfamiliar right-back position as the Florida franchise secured an impressive 2-1 win against the Crew, with the defender scoring the opening goal of the match from a Julian Gressel corner.

And Fray has now shared his reaction to making his long-awaited return in dream style.

Fray reveals ‘the best feeling ever’ after scoring on Inter Miami return

Speaking to the Miami Herald, the Inter Miami academy graduate revealed that scoring on his return to action was ‘the best feeling ever’, as Fray laid down his marker in a big way having missed a year of soccer for the Florida franchise.

Indeed, Fray’s return and goal were the story of the night for Inter Miami, and the youngster couldn’t hide his excitement post-match having scored on his comeback fixture for the Herons against the reigning MLS champions.

Fray said after Inter Miami’s 2-1 win: “It is the best feeling ever. This is what I have been waiting for. Ever since I got injured the last time, I had no doubts that I was going to come back and show what I could do. I am only confident that that is going to continue.

“I am not going to lie to you, [this last year] was the toughest moment in my life, but I try to keep in mind that people go through things all the time. I am in a really good spot here with the greatest player to ever play the game playing here. That is what kept me motivated.”

Inter Miami could now have a new defensive superstar on their hands

Fray’s development after three consecutive ACL injuries would have been enough to send even the most battle-hardened players into an early retirement, yet the Inter Miami defender continues to defy the odds.

And after last night’s performance against the Crew, the Herons could now have a new defensive superstar on their hands if Fray can stay fit and maintain his level of form that has made him such an exciting prospect.

Indeed, this summer is a big one for the Inter Miami defender, and after yesterday’s display against the reigning MLS champions, Fray could be ready to take his game to the next level with his boyhood club.
