Rangers expected to open chequebook and secure signing of top Bundesliga talent - report

Rangers fans are nervously awaiting the next update to the club’s transfer business.

So far Rangers have only added Brazilian left-back Jefte and French defender Clinton Nsiala to the club’s squad from last season.

With Oscar Cortes also securing his Ibrox future alongside Mohamed Diomande, there is still much work to be done this summer.

Reports this week have claimed that Rangers are turning their homegrown attentions to Connor Barron and Liam Kelly as an imminent double swoop takes the list of summer acquisitions to six.

And now one leading Scottish football journalist is claiming that the club’s owners are set to open the chequebook for a new arrival from the German Bundesliga.

Rangers closing in on Kabadayi

Rangers are one of a number of clubs who’ve been linked with a move for Yusuf Kabadayi.

The German winger, 20, spent last season on loan at Schalke 04 and after returning to Bayern Munich looks to be on the move again this summer.

Newly promoted Bundesliga side St Pauli and Serie A club Lecce have been mentioned but Rangers were always believed to be leading the charge.

That was until reports emerged in Turkey this week.

Fenerbahce and Jose Mourinho were the first Turkish side to be linked before a report claimed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Besiktas team had stolen a march on Rangers.

But according to Herald & Times journalist Chris Jack, the Turkish transfer reports are wide of the mark with Rangers very much expected to complete the signing of Kabadayi this summer.

“I don’t wish to do a downer to my Turkish colleagues, but as far as we’re aware, he will be a Rangers player,” Jack told the Rangers Review’s Daily Briefing (20/06/24).

“We had that 10 days or so ago, that Rangers were quite far along the line, and I do expect him to be a Rangers player.

“The usual caveats apply, as we saw with the Jose Cordoba deal when everything looked like it would get done before a late change of heart.

“So until he’s there with a scarf above his head, it’s never done, but as far as we’re aware that one will end positively for Rangers.”

Whilst a deal for Yusuf Kabadayi is not yet confirmed, Rangers are expected to pay between £1m and £1.5m for the attacker.

Ibrox transfer hunt continues

Whilst we did say at the time Turkish reports should always be taken with a pinch of salt, the news will be a relief to Rangers supporters.

Several high-profile pursuits from this transfer window have not gone the Gers’ way to date and with pre-season training returning next week the nerves are jangling.

There is still much business to be conducted in and out of Rangers and fans know that the fixtures will be coming thick and fast before we know it.

There are several areas of the squad which require surgery with the forward line amongst the most prominent.

Rangers have been extensively linked with a number of attacking players, not least Hamza Igamane for whom a bid of £1.7m has reportedly been accepted by FAR Rabat.

There is also the situation with Kosovan hitman Albion Rrahmani, although the Gers and current club Rapid Bucharest are some ways apart in their valuations as things stand.
