Report: West Ham are now trying to sign another Brazilian player after £25m Luis Guilherme deal

Having already wrapped up a £25m deal to sign Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras, Tim Steidten is now trying to bring another Brazilian player to West Ham.

The Hammers moved quickly to buy the Brazil U20 international from the Brasileiro Série A side after he impressed in attack alongside Endrick – who has since joined Real Madrid – and Chelsea target Estevao Willian.

So, which Brazilian player is Tim Steidten now hoping to sign for West Ham? Let’s take a look…

West Ham want Carlos Augusto

A story from Inter Live in Italy now claims that West Ham want to sign Inter Milan No.30 Carlos Augusto.

The Hammers are considering a move for the Brazil international amid doubts over the future of Emerson Palmieri – who is a target for AC Milan this summer as Theo Hernandez could leave the San Siro.

Like the Italy international, Augusto can operate as a left wing-back or even as a left winger, while he has also played as a left sided centre-back for Inter Milan.

Inter Live believe West Ham are considering a bid of €20m (£17m) and Emerson for the South American, as Steidten would prefer to use the Italian as a bargaining chip to secure a target, rather than let him join AC Milan in a cash-only deal.

Augusto made 46 appearances for Inter Milan last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists as the Nerazzurri won the Serie A title.

Deal would only make sense in terms of age

In our view, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to effectively swap Emerson for Augusto while also spending £17m – given the fact the West Ham No.33 is proven in the Premier League.

However, seeing as Emerson turns 30 in August, whereas Augusto is just 25 years of age, Steidten may be considering this move simply to freshen up that area and give West Ham a long-term option on the left.

Other than that, we cannot really see much need for this deal, so if negotiations prove to be too challenging with Inter Milan, it may be wise to walk away and simply keep Emerson at the London Stadium – if he is happy to stay and ignore AC Milan.
