Miami (Fla.) Central four-star defensive back Amari Wallace had been high on the Hurricanes since receiving an offer his sophomore year. On Thursday evening, the No. 240 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and one of the top defensive backs in South Florida felt the time was right to commit to the Canes.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound safety, who will play nickelback for the Hurricanes, announced his commitment today, just under a week after his official visit to Miami and after a discussion with his family earlier this week. He becomes the Hurricanes 10th commitment in the 2025 class, first four-star defensive back and fourth player to announce his decision since the start of summer. Wallace joins three-star defensive back Timothy Merritt — who can play either cornerback or safety — in Miami’s DB class and becomes the Hurricanes’ fourth-highest rated commit thus far in this year’s recruiting class.
“I had been telling everybody I wanted to commit before the (fall) season, and the season’s almost here and time is getting shorter and shorter,” Wallace said. “I just felt like it was the perfect time to commit. I mean, it’s home. There’s nothing like home. Home is where they treat you like family, they’re big on you, so I committed because it’s home. There’s nothing like home.”
Miami has intensely recruited Wallace since head coach Mario Cristobal’s first season during Wallace’s sophomore year and hasn’t let up. Former Central head coach Roland Smith, who now works in Miami’s recruiting office and has helped the Hurricanes maintain close ties to one of South Florida’s most storied high school programs, played a factor in Wallace’s continued interest in the school along with numerous on and off-field staffers.
So when Wallace sat down with his family earlier this week to discuss a possible commitment, the decision was easy.
“The facilities, the development, the academics, they had everything I wanted to go to school for,” Wallace said. “I want to go to school for real estate, and they have a bunch of really good real estate and business opportunities (for life outside of football).”
Wallace added he felt Miami’s staff would continue to care for him through of the highs and lows of his life, which also played a large role. He has no doubt he made the right decision.
“I always say love who loves you,” Wallace said. “At first it was shocking, but then I got used to it. It feels good, though. It feels great!”

Wallace is the quintessential must-land local blue-chip prospect for the Hurricanes, and Miami did what it needed to do to keep one of the top local talents home.
